NIADA Gallery Night 2013

This year the NIADA conference was held in Corte Madera, California, just outside San Francisco.  I usually go every 2-3 years and since I had been to the conference last year I didn't think I would be going.  But my good friend Neva Waldt was going to be inducted as a new member, so how could I miss that?

Another reason not to miss:  Shelley Thornton was teaching a class.  I had a great three day Head and Hand class  with Shelley.

Gallery night was spectacular (although a little hard to photograph with the light from the windows coming through).

Innovation by Design

Tomorrow is the opening of “Innovation by Design”, a new show by the Mixed Media Artists of Houston.  The show is at 18 Hands Gallery, 19th Street in the Houston Heights.

The show will be a quick one, running through April 28.  I have three pieces in this show:

The Tempter

Balancing Act

And Bianca
which I am please to say is also featured in the current summer issue of Art Doll Quarterly.

My Favorite Color

Green has been my favorite color for as long as I can remember.  When I was a little girl and asked “what is your favorite color” I always said “green”.  Even though every other little girl I knew said “pink”.

We had a green car when I was very little that I absolutely loved.  It was huge with “wings” (i.e. fenders).  Those were the days before child seats and seat belt laws.  I used to lay in that ledge in the rear window.  It was big enough for a couple of kids at least.  When my parents sold that car and bought a new one I was heartbroken.  The new car wasn’t green (and didn’t have those wings either).

I still love green and was happy to read recently about a study
that suggests the color green enhances creativity.

Last year when I remodeled my studio I painted 2 of my studio walls that color.

Besides just making me happy, I hope it makes me more creative too!
