Valentine Gifts

This year I made some pin cushion rings as Valentine gifts for my TAODA friends.

I got the idea from a facebook friend (thank you Mister Finch!), who got the idea from seeing the movie with Johnny Depp as the Mad Hatter who was wearing such a ring.  Mister Finch made one with a wine bottle screw cap, which I thought was very clever!  I had all my sweet neighbors saving wine bottle screw caps for me!

Here's the way I made them:

First, cut a piece of elastic 2 3/4" long.  I happen to have this pretty gold elastic.

Next cut out a 1 1/4" circle of felt.

Cut two slits in the felt and thread the elastic through.  Then overlap the elastic ends and sew them together.Pull the elastic so that the sewn edge is to the inside of the felt circle.  Paint some glue on the inside of the felt circle.

Then glue it onto the top of the wine bottle screw cap.

Next, cut some 1" wide ribbon four inches long.  Fray check the ends so they don't ravel.

Cut a three inch square of fabric and round the corners.  I used velvet.

Sew a running stitch around the edge of the fabric circle.

Add a handful of fiberfill.

Pull up the gathering stitches.

And here is your little puff.

Paint some glue on the inside of the wine bottle screw cap.

Push your little puff into the cap.

Next, paint some glue all around the side of the cap.

Take a piece of the ribbon you cut earlier and wrap around the side of the cap.

Voilà!  The finished rings:

Happy Belated.........

I had been without a computer for about a week so I didn't get to post last week about Valentine's Day or Mardi Gras.
So I'm doing it now anyway - better late than never!  Here is our Valentine breakfast:
Lox and bagels and yummy cupcakes get a thumbs up from hubby!

Two days later was Fat Tuesday, so of course we had a King's Cake.

Here it is before the baby was hidden inside.

Tradition says that finding the baby is good luck.  Bob got the baby with the very first slice.  Laissez les bons temps rouler - Let the good times roll!

Our youngest came home from college last weekend, so of course that was also a celebration!
